3 Crafts with Craft Tubes

by Lynn Lilly, Apr 06 2020

You might have a lot of extra craft tubes laying around these days. Instead of tossing them collect them for your kiddos to craft with. Recycled items like boxes, scraps of paper and craft tubes are some of my favorite craft supplies. I am continuing my partnership with Crayola to help inspire their community with at home crafts during my bi-weekly live broadcasts on their Facebook page. This week I am sharing three crafts you can make with recycled craft rolls. I even snuck in a craft for moms!

  • Crayola Markers
  • Crayola Metallic Markers
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Cut a piece of green construction paper long enough to wrap around the craft tube x 2" wide. Use the scissors to scallop one side of the strip.
  2. Draw a tail that is about 4" long.
  3. Use the Crayola Metallic Markers to draw scales on the strip and the tail.
  4. Glue the strip around the bottom half of the craft tube.
  5. Glue the end of the tail to the back so it is sticking out of the side.
  6. Draw and cut two small shells and a thin strip of black construction paper for the bikini top.
  7. Draw texture lines on the shells with markers.
  8. Glue to the craft tube right above the green scales.
  9. Cut a another strip of construction paper long enough to wrap around the craft tube x 1" wide. Use the scissors to scallop one side of the strip and glue around the top of the craft tube. This is the mermaid's hair.
  10. Cut 7-8, 1/4" x 2.5" strips of the same color of construction paper as used in step 9.
  11. Glue the strips around the top of craft tube. Use a pencil or paint brush to curl the ends of the strips aka the hair.
  12. Trace and cut the opening of the top of the craft tube in the same color of construction paper as the hair. Glue over the opening of the top of the craft tube.
  13. Cut two more thin strips of construction paper, curl with a pencil and attach the top for a fun hair style.
