3 Family Fun Crafts

by Lynn Lilly, Sep 07 2021

I am always trying to whip up fun crafts families can make together. Crafts have always been something that brought my family together past and present. This week on my Crayola Facebook live broadcast I am sharing 3 crafts that families can make together and continue to play with! This week we are creating inclusive artwork, a feelings board and a 3D paper plate puppet show.

Family Craft Projects

All the Crayola supplies I am using below can purchased on Crayola.com

Project 1: Inclusive Rainbow Artwork

Colors of the World Rainbow Art

Materials:

  • 4 Small Canvas Panels (or as many members of your family that are participating)
  • Crayola Colors of the World Makers

Directions:

  1. Get a canvas panel for every member of your family that is participating.
  2. Let each member of the family draw their own version of an all inclusive rainbow us the Colors of the World Markers
  3. Display them as a collection for a fun reminder that everyone is welcome under your family's rainbow.

Project 2: Today I Feel.... Board

Materials:

  • Stretched Canvas (I used an 8"x10")
  • Wood Letters
  • Crayola Washable Markers
  • Crayola Construction Paper
  • Crayola Bright Pop Cardstock
  • Crayola Washable Liquid Glue
  • Crayola Glue Stick
  • Scissors
  • Washi Tape

Today I Feel Emotion Board

Directions:

  1. At the top of the canvas either write Today I Feel.... or color wood letters with washable markers and glue them to the top.
  2. Next, have everyone in the family draw and cut out different emotion emojis.
  3. Using Bright Pop Cardstock and Construction Paper, cut small plaques for each person in your family. Glue them down the side of the canvas and write a name on each.
  4. Draw divider lines between each family member or cut out them out from construction paper or cardstock and glue them on the cavas.
  5. Every day each family member can choose their emotions to display on the board. Use a piece of rolled washi tape on the back of each emoji so they are easy to stick and re-stick to the board.

This a great project to encourage your children to talk about their feelings and understand that all feelings are acceptable.

Project 3: 3D House Paper Plate Puppet Show

Materials:

  • Paper Plate
  • Crayola Construction Paper
  • Crayola Colors of the World Crayons
  • Crayola Washable Markers
  • Crayola Washable Liquid Glue
  • Scissors
  • Popsicle Sticks

3D Paper Plate Puppet Show

Directions:

  1. Cut the base of the house and roof of the house out of construction paper. Make sure that both are large enough to cover the paper plate.
  2. Cut doors and windows out of the house.
  3. Lay the house on the paper plate and draw lines at the bottom of the window openings and the door on the paper plate.
  4. Fold the paper plate in half on those lines and cut along the fold into the line. Do not cut all the way through.
  5. Decorate the house. You can add shutters, draw bricks or even ivy. You can even cut out bushes and glue them to the front of the house.
  6. Glue the roof to the house.
  7. Glue the house to the paper plate. You should not see any of the paper plate except through the windows and door.
  8. Next take white sheets of construction paper and draw the members of your family using markers and Colors of the World Crayons. Once done, cut them out and glue to popsicle sticks.

When you are ready for the puppet show slip the popsicle stick people through the back of slits in the back of the paper plate and have them pop in and out of the windows and the doors.

Most importantly have fun making and playing as a family! Remember these are memories you can make together.
