Cricut Mini EasyPress Monster Shoes

by Lynn Lilly, Oct 10 2019

Cricut is wowing me yet again with the brand new EasyPress Mini! The Cricut EasyPress Mini is the newest addition to the EasyPress Family. In addition to being the cutest crafting tool of the year, it is perfect for small and/or unique projects like hats, shoes, t-shirt sleeves, cuffs, pockets, stuffed animals, pressing seams and so much more! It works great as a companion to one of the larger EasyPress 2 models when you are working on projects that have multiple components. This literally is now in my top 5 must-have crafting tools. Not mention it fits great in a suitcase and works to get out those pesky wrinkles when I am traveling!

To celebrate the launch I made monster Halloween shoes that are so FUN!!!! The EasyPress Mini made it so easy to iron-on my small monsters in a tight space on the shoe. I will be sporting these all of October! Make sure you watch our facebook lives this month to get a sneak peek of me wearing the shoes.

Cricut EasyPress Mini offers the same benefits and technology as the Cricut EasyPress 2: even heat plate and easy-to-use heat settings for effortless heat transfers.

Check out the easy tutorial!

Supplies:

  • Cricut EasyPress Mini
  • Circut Maker or Cricut Explore Air 2
  • Cricut Everyday Iron-On in Black
  • Standard Cutting Mat
  • Shoes
  • Glitter Ribbon
  • Orange Pom Pom Trim
  • Fabric Glue or Hot Glue

Directions:

  1. Open Cricut Design Space and select your favorite monster images or access them easily from the project page I created for you.
  2. Measure the shoes you are using and adjust the size of the monster in Design Space as needed.
  3. Once you are finished tweaking the design, click "Make It" in the top right corner. Mirror the design.
  4. Place a piece of the Everyday Iron-On on a standard cutting mat. Make sure you are using a piece large enough to cover the project size. Feed the mat into the machine.
  5. Select the Everyday Iron-On as the material you are cutting and hit the magic "C" button to begin.
  6. Once the design is cut, carefully weed away the excess vinyl.
  7. Visit the Cricut EasyPress Heat Settings Guide to determine the correct settings for the EasyPress Mini.
  8. For this project, the guide suggested setting the EasyPress Mini to Medium (which is 2 of the 3 bars lit).
  9. While the EasyPress Mini was heating I decided that I wanted my monsters to peek onto the side of the shoe, so I lined them up where I wanted them and trimmed the bottom so they would be coming on to the shoe at an angle.
  10. Pre-heat the surface of the shoe for 5 seconds, lay the iron-on flat on the surface and apply the EasyPress Mini for 25 seconds with light pressure. You can slightly move across the design while applying pressure.  The EasyPress Mini was perfect for this project because my design was so close to the sole (which is rubber and can melt) so I need to be really precise.                                         EasyPress Mini
  11. Apply the EasyPress Mini to the inside of the shoe to heat the back of the design for 15 seconds. This is another example of how the EasyPress Mini is key for unique projects like these shoes!
  12. Remove the liner that is over the iron-on while it is still warm.
  13. Add a monster design to both the inside and the outside of the shoe.
  14. Next add the smaller monsters to the heal of the shoe.
  15. Finally, remove the laces and replace them with glitter ribbon.
  16. For some more flair because I am super extra use fabric glue or hot glue to add pieces of glitter ribbon to the top of the shoe and pom pom trim to the heal.

Are these shoes adorable! All made possible with the Cricut EasyPress Mini! You can now purchase the EasyPress Mini on Cricut's website

    Hi Michele!
Thanks so much! I got the glitter ribbon from Michaels in the Halloween section. It is 1/4" wide! I used hot glue to add it to the shoes!
