3 Kids Outdoor Activities

by Lynn Lilly, Dec 21 2021

Let's get outside and celebrate Summer with some fun activities for the kids and family! On this week's Crayola Facebook live broadcast my plan was to broadcast from my front yard but the weather had other plans so we brought the outside into our studio. Lily joined in on the fun! Here is some fun behind the scenes shots:

Parent's you will definitely want to get in on the fun! Remember to tune in every Tuesday at 1:00pm EST on the Crayola Facebook page for more fun!

All the Crayola products I used in today's projects can be found on Crayola.com

Project 1: Rock Scavenger Hunt

Materials:

  • Crayola Acrylic Paint
  • Crayola Take Note Permanent Markers
  • Crayola Metallic Markers

This is fun for the whole family! Have the kiddos collect rocks outside which can be an activity in itself. Parent's pick places through out the yard that you are going to hide the rocks and tell the kiddos to paint a specific thing on the rocks that relate to a clue you would give to find it. After they draw the picture you will write the clue on the rock with the permanent markers before hiding. Send your kiddos on a scavenger hunt and don't forget to put a fun prize for the treasure at the end.

Project 2: Squirt Bottle Canvas art

Crayola Outdoor Activities

Materials:

  • Cleaned Out Condiment Bottles
  • Crayola Washable Paint
  • Crayola Take Note Permanent Markers
  • Canvas
  • Easel
  • Water

Draw targets on the canvas with the permanent markers. Make sure to pick the same color markers and paint so the targets match the paint.

Make sure to clean out the condiment bottles. Fill 3/4 of each bottle with water. Pour about 2 teaspoons of washable paint into each bottle. Close the lids and shake really well over the sink or a trash can.

Let your kiddos squirt the the bottles at the canvas and try to hit the targets. The best part is that the paint can be wiped off and the game can be played over and over again!

Project 3: Flamingo Plant Decoration

Materials:

  • Crayola Model Magic (Pink, white and black)
  • Bamboo/Wood Skewers
  • Crayola Washable Glue
  • Crayola Kid Scissors

Directions:

  1. Take a handful of pink Model Magic and roll into a ball. Form the shape of the flamingo.
  2. Next pull off more pink Model Magic and shape two wings. Use the kid scissor to snip feathers into the end. Press onto each side of the body.
  3. Model the neck and head of the flamingo with pink Model Magic.
  4. Take a small amount of black Model Magic and form a beak. Push the beak onto the end of the head.
  5. Roll two small eyes with the white Model Magic and press on to the face.
  6. Roll two tiny black eyes and press on to the white eyes.
  7. Press the two skewers into the underside of the flamingo body. These will be the legs. Remove.
  8. Use the glue to glue the neck to the body. Hold in place until glue is tacky.
  9. Let the flamingo air dry over night.
  10. Once it is dry add glue in the indentions left from the skewers and then replace the skewers. Let it dry completely before displaying.

Once the flamingo is dry, stick it in your favorite yard or house plant!

I hope you have a blast crafting as a family and enjoying the outdoors!
