National DIY DAY Ambassador| The Organized Mama | Chicago, IL
The Organized Mama is an organizing and crafting blog, which inspires organizing a handmade home through crafting and organizing tutorials! I started The Organized Mama out of a desire to help others feel more inspired about organizing and utilizing their crafty side. The two really mesh well together as you need to be creative to organize well!
I think the most challenging thing of running a creative blog is keeping up with my ideas! I have a large book full of plans that I come up with in the middle of the night, but don't have enough time in the day to act on every project/idea. So picking and choosing which projects to focus my attention is really challenging!

Can you tell us your biggest craft fail?
I have many, but the biggest craft fails would be trying to create a bench cushion for my kids playroom. We bought wood to use as the base of the bench that I would upholster. Since I had never upholstered anything before I thought I would look on YouTube. I found a horrible video that wasn't helpful and I ended up having to trash the entire thing! I destroyed the fabric and the wood warped because it was outside for too long!
What is one piece of advice would you give someone wanting to start a blog or creative business:
I would say that my one piece of advice for someone wanting to start a creative business or blog is to truly love creating. If you are confident in yourself, then you won't fall into the trap of comparing yourself to others. It is really easy to do because people are so creative, but you have a gift and that is what you need to focus on!
Where do you get your creative inspiration?
I get my creative inspiration from all over! Looking at colorful prints, outside in nature, playing with my kids. But the best time for me to get inspiration is right before I fall asleep. Like clockwork I get an idea that I have to try!
What are you most excited about for National DIY DAY?
I am so excited to connect with other DIY'ers to celebrate making, crafting, and DIY-ing!!
In 5 years, what is your goal for you and your blog?
In 5 years, I would LOVE to be a Michael's Maker!! Besides the fact that I love the store, I would love to create things with such amazing talent. I would also like to branch out of my comfort zone of paper and mixed media crafts and try painting/drawing!
Please share with us a fun fact about yourself:I grew up in Minnesota, went to school in Indiana, and live in Chicago... So I think it's safe to say I am totally a Midwest girl!!
