Project Time: 2 hours

Difficulty Level: Beginner

Materials:

  • Tape Measure
  • Drill/Driver
  • Flathead Screwdriver
  • Level
  • Marker or Pencil
  • 1x6”x32” OR a Piece of Scrap Wood
  • Mending Plate with Screws
  • Mason Jars
  • Pipe Clamps
  • French Cleat Picture Hanging Hardware
  • Sand Paper

Directions:

  1. You can pick any size wood for this DIY project, but generally, a piece that is approximately 32 inches long is a good size. This size allows you to space 3 mason jars 8 inches apart. A piece 4 to 8 inches wide helps balance the appearance of taller mason jars.
  2. Sand wood to smooth corners and edges.      Sanding
  3. Stain or paint your wood using a rag or brush. Follow manufacturer’s instructions. How to Stain
  4. Now is a good time to install the French cleat hanging hardware to the back of your base. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to install the French cleat.                                                                                                                                                      How to install a French CleatHow to Install a French Cleat
  5. Measure and mark the holes where your mending plates will go to secure the pipe clamps to the wood.  Measure the length of your wood and divide by the number of mason jars you’ll be attaching to determine the distance between each jar. Make sure to measure from the center. Use a level to ensure each marked location is aligned all the way across.  How to Build a Mason Jar Planter
  6. Predrill holes at each marked location for easier installation. Place the pipe clamps at each location between the wood and mending plates, then fasten the mending plates to the wood with the screws provided.     How to Build a Mason Jar Planter
  7. Measure the center point of your wall to attach the other half of your French cleat hanging hardware and hang your base. Be sure to choose a functional height when installing your planter.   How to Install a French Cleat
  8. Center each mason jar in a pipe clamp and secure it by tightening the pipe clam with a flathead screwdriver.    How to Build a Mason Jar PlanterHow to Build a Mason Jar Planter
  9. Now it’s time to fill the mason jars with your favorite, plants, herbs or flowers! I filled mine with succulents, my favorite plant because they are impossible to kill!
