Project 1: Paper Lanterns

Paper Lanterns

Materials:

  • Crayola Construction Paper
  • Crayola Glue
  • Scissors
  • Yarn

Directions:

  1. Fold a piece of construction paper in half longways (hot dog style).
  2. Starting on the folded side of the paper cut slits every 1.5"-2" making sure the cuts stop about 1" before the end of the paper. You do not want to cut all the way through.
  3. Unfold the paper.
  4. Roll so the slits are vertical. Use the glue stick to secure the roll along the side. This forms your lantern.
  5. Cut another strip of paper and glue it on the inside top of the lantern to form a handle.
  6. Make a few lanterns and hang them on a piece of yarn.

This is a fun decoration for your room or a party!

Project 2: Giant Paper Flowers

Giant Construction Paper Flowers

Materials:

  • Crayola Construction Paper
  • Crayola Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Flower Template  (click, save to computer and print)

Directions:

  1. Pick out the color of construction paper you want to use for your flower. You will need a color for the center and green for the petals.
  2. Print, cut, and trace the templates according to the number of each petal on the template.
  3. Cut a slit in the bottom of each center of each flower petal. Apply glue to one side of the slit and overlap each side to give the petals dimension. Do this to every petal.
  4. Glue the petals around the circle base starting with the largest on the outside and glue the smaller ones as you move closer to the center.
  5. Cut and trace the template for the center of the flower. Roll the center and glue inside the center of the flower.
  6. Cut leaves out of green construction paper and attach them to the flower.

Make multiple flowers and create a mural on your bedroom wall!

Project 3: 3D Hot Air Balloon

Paper 3D Hot Air Balloon

Materials:

  • Crayola Construction Paper
  • Crayola Glue
  • Crayola Markers
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Yarn

Directions:

  1. Pick a circular object to trace.  A paper plate works great. Keep in mind the size of the circle will be the size of the top of the hot air balloon.
  2. Cut and trace 5 circles on different colors of paper.
  3. Fold each circle in half.
  4. Glue each circle into another circle until you have a 3D circle.
  5. Glue a piece of yarn on the top of the circle. This will be used to hand the hot air balloon.
  6. Take another piece of construction paper and cut a strip that is 4" x 11" and fold into a box. Cut a separate slip of paper to use as a connector to glue the box together.  This is the basket of the balloon.
  7. Have some fun decorating the basket with construction and markers.
  8. Use 4 pieces of yarn to connect the box to the balloon!

TADA! You have your very own hot air balloon!
