3 Patriotic Kids Crafts

by Lynn Lilly, Jun 29 2020

I hope you are still surviving and are healthy and well! Many of you are still working from home and your kiddos are out of school with no summer camp in the future.  I am here to help!  I am continuing my partnership with Crayola to help inspire you and your kids with at home crafts during my weekly live broadcasts on their Facebook page. Today is all about patriotic crafts.

These crafts are themed to celebrate the Fourth of July but can be customized with any colors for year round fun!

Project 1: Confetti Sparklers

Materials:

  • Crayola Construction Paper
  • Crayola Glue Stick
  • Crayola Glitter Glue
  • Cardboard Craft Roll
  • Balloon
  • Confetti (I cut up construction paper)
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Cut a piece of construction to the size of the craft roll and glue it around the craft roll.
  2. Cut a 1.5" strip of construction paper, long enough to fit around the outside of the craft roll. Cut slits along the edge to make fringe. Repeat with 2 other colors.
  3. Glue all three pieces of fringe together and glue them around the outside top edge of the craft roll so the fringe faces out and hangs over the edge.
  4. Decorate the craft roll with glitter glue.
  5. Cut the tip off of a balloon. Tie the end of the balloon like you would if it was blown up. Have an adult help you with this step.
  6. Stretch the open end of the balloon over the non-fringe end of the craft roll. Have an adult help you.
  7. Fill the craft roll with confetti. Pull the end of the balloon and watch the confetti fly!

These could be really fun for a kids birthday party!

Project 2: Patriotic String Lights

Dixie Cup String Lights

Materials:

  • Crayola Construction Paper

  • Scissors
  • 3 ounce Paper Cups
  • String Lights

Directions:

  1. Measure pieces of construction paper to fit around the cups.
  2. Use the glue stick to glue the paper around the cups.
  3. As an added decoration you can cut fringe like we did in the Confetti Sparker project above and glue it around the opening of the cup.
  4. Poke the lights on the string light through the top of the cup. Have an adult do this step.
  5. Add as many cups to the lights as you want!

You can do these for a birthday, shower or any holiday!

Project 3: Lady Liberty Paper Plate Visor

Lady Liberty Paper Plate Crown

My 2.5 year old daughter got in on the fun when I was making this one. Her favorite part was adding all the glitter glue!

Materials:

  • Crayola Markers
  • Crayola Glue Stick
  • Crayola Glitter Glue
  • 2 Paper Plates
  • Scissors
  • Yarn
  • Hole Punch

Directions:

  1. Cut one paper plate into a "U" shape.
  2. Using the extra part of the paper plate from step 1 and the extra paper plate cut out 8 triangles.
  3. Color the triangles and the "U" shape with a gray marker.
  4. Decorate with glitter glue. This was daughters favorite part hence all the glitter.
  5. Glue the triangles around the "U". Bend them upward so they stand up.
  6. Punch holes in the ends of the crown and tie yarn to each end so you can tie it to your head!
