There’s something about watercolor that makes me so happy :-)
Bright and beautiful colors captivate and inspire me to be creative. These DIY watercolor bookmarks were created to do just that! You may be thinking that watercolor is intimidating but these were created using acrylic craft paint. Use them to mark that thriller you’ve been reading or give them as gifts to your favorite book worm!
What You’ll Need:
- Martha Stewart Crafts Multi-Surface Paint: Fuchsia, Wild Salmon, Green Curry, and Spearmint
- Martha Stewart Crafts Stencil Tape
- Watercolor Paper
- Small Brush
- Tassels (I found these cuties in the Target one spot bin! Score!)
- Solo Cups
- Scissors
Step 1: First, add a small amount of paint to a solo cup. Repeat this step for all four colors. You’ll end up with four solo cups containing four different colors of paint.
Step 2: Next, add a little water to each cup to dilute the paint and set aside.
Step 3: Now it’s time to get creative with tape and watercolor paper :-) Create fun designs, stripes, and monograms.
Step 4: Once you have everything taped off, use the brush to apply the diluted paint by dripping the colors onto the paper. Add more water for lighter shades and more paint for darker, more concentrated colors. Let dry.
Step 5: Remove the tape to reveal your designs!
Step 6: Cut the bookmarks to a standard size, punch a hole in top and loop the tassels through to complete your custom DIY watercolor bookmarks!
I hope you enjoyed learning about how to achieve watercolor effects with acrylic paint and water! Feel free to share with a friend who needs a colorful DIY to brighten their day!
