Who knows what Halloween will bring this year. What I do know is that no matter what we will definitely be celebrating as a family and this year peace, love and a carefree spirit are in order. I had so much fun making Brennan, Lily, and I matching tie-dye hippie costumes with Tulip's Two-Minute Tie-Dye Kit. It is such a quick and easy "homemade" costume for this busy mama! Check out the video and a few tips and ideas below to create your very own hippie costume.
You can purchase the Tulip Two-Minute Tie-Dye Kit on Amazon!
Tips for Tie-Dye:
- Select the garment item you want to tie-dye. It can be a shirt, dress, jeans, shorts, a hat, bandanna, tote, or even a mask.
- Make sure to read all the instructions included in the kit before starting.
- You can check out the three folding techniques I used in the video as well as view a handful more included in the instruction book.
- Make sure to always soak your garment in water prior to starting. This is super important so the dye soaks into your fabric.
- The amazing part of this kit is that your tie-dye will set in 2-3 minutes using the including container and your home microwave. Check the booklet for microwave times. Larger garments will require a little longer microwave time.
- When picking your colors think about what colors will result if the colors mix together. Often you will end up with the colors touching and they will create a new color. For example, yellow and purple will make brown if they are bleeding into each other.
- After filling the dye bottles make sure to shake really well until all the powder is mixed.
- Wear the included gloves throughout the whole process even when rinsing your garment after microwaving.
- When you wash the garment for the first time, wash it by itself.
A few fun ideas to add to your Hippie Costume!
- I had an old pair of jeans that I turned into bell bottoms. I cut a slit up the outside side seam and spread the opening into a triangle. I used my Aleene's Fabric Fusion to glue lace ribbon in the triangle and glue pom-pom trim to the bottom hem.
- I ordered my daughter a pair of inexpensive bell bottoms on Amazon and used the Aleene's Fabric Fusion to glue two different pom-pom trims to the bottoms to match her tie-dye shirt.
- Have fun accessorizing with sunglasses and we created headbands by wrapping the leather string around our head and tying it in a knot. It was a great, quick, and easy accessory that worked for the whole family.
Wishing you peace, love, and cool vibes this Halloween! PS- Remember you can get your Two-Minute Tulip Tie-Dye Kit on Amazon as well as any other accessories you need to create your very own Hippie Costume!
Happy Halloween!
xoxo- Lynn
