Do you ever want to decorate for a certain season but the colors don’t necessarily match your home décor? Well, my friends, I have a solution for that! Don’t let your seasonal décor stick out like a sore thumb ever again by learning how to create custom seasonal signs! Let’s start with a Vintage Trick or Treat sign with a shabby chic twist!
What you'll need:
- FolkArt Value Pack Seasonal Sign Stencils
- Folkart Home Décor Chalk Paint – English Lavender, Maui Sand, and Parisian Gray
- FolkArt Home Décor Small Chalk Brush
- Small Stencil Brush (3/8”)
- Sandpaper
- Wooden Plaque (15” x 14”)
Note: The stencils I used are 12 x 12 so you want to make sure your surface can accommodate that size.
STEP 1: If you’re using a wood surface for your sign, I strongly recommend sanding it before starting to paint. Sand just enough to make a smooth surface but keeping the wood grain texture.
STEP 2: Next, apply a thin layer of gray paint to the front of the sign. Let dry.
STEP 3: Sand the sign again to create a grey washed wood effect.
STEP 4: Take your stencil and pop out the perforated design.
STEP 5: Position your stencil over the surface. Make sure to center the design. Using the stencil brush, apply English Lavender to the stencil flourishes.
STEP 6: Next, apply charcoal gray to the “Trick or Treat” part of the stencil. Wash your brush out between colors. Immediately remove the stencil to reveal your design. Let dry.
STEP 7: Enjoy your new customized sign that matches your home décor!
TIP: If you choose to purchase the stencil pack, you can make your own custom signs for any season! Re-use the same wooden pallet for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and more! It really is a nice economical option for your home décor needs!
I hope you enjoyed learning how to customize your décor with this Vintage Trick or Treat Sign for Halloween! Don’t forget that you can alter the colors to match your specific color needs.
