The kick off of Summer is this weekend and even though you might be celebrating at home you can still get your family in the spirit with easy red, white and blue crafts. I am continuing my partnership with Crayola to help inspire you with at home crafts during my weekly live broadcasts on their Facebook page.
Project 1: Water Bottle Boat
This is such a fun craft for the whole family! Pop the boats in a kiddy pool and use a straw to blow them across the pool for boat races.
Materials:
- Crayola Acrylic Paint & Brush
- Crayola Construction Paper
- Crayola Glue
- 10 Large Popsicle Sticks
- 1 Small Popsicle Stick
- 2 Empty Water Bottles
- Sparkly Pipe Cleaner
- Scissor
Directions:
- Lay 8 popsicle next to each other. Leave a small space between sticks 5 and 6. The space should be large enough for a small popsicle stick to fit snuggle in the crack.
- Glue two large sticks across the 8 to hold them in place. Let dry.
- Flip the popsicle stick platform over. Paint with Crayola Acrylic Paint and let dry.
- Glue the platform to the two water bottles. Make sure they are evenly placed on the platform so the boat is balanced.
- Cut two triangles from construction paper. Paint a star on each.
- Glue them to the small popsicle stick. Add a sparkly pipe cleaner to the back for added pizazz.
- Insert the popsicle stick into the small space of the large popsicle platform.
Your boat is ready set sail for Summer fun!
Project 2: Craft Roll Eagle Family
Materials:
- Crayola Construction Paper
- Crayola Glue
- 3 Craft Rolls
- Red/White/Blue Ribbon
- Scissor
- Googley Eyes (or a black marker)
Directions
- Cut one of the craft rolls down to about 4 inches to make the baby eagle.
- Cut and cover 3/4 of each roll with brown construction paper.
- Cover the remaining part of each roll with white construction paper.
- Cut a set of feet and one beak for each eagle. Glue the feet to the bottom of the roll and the beak on the front of each eagle at the seam of the brown and white paper.
- Cut wings for each eagle from the brown construction paper.
- Glue a set of googley eyes on the head of each eagle. If you do not have googley eyes draw them with a black marker.
- Add accessories like a bowtie, top hat and hair bow with ribbon.
Project 3: Red, White & Blue Paper Bead Bracelet
Materials:
- 9"x12" Crayola Construction Paper
- Crayola Glue
- Scissors
- Yarn or Ribbon
- Paper Straw
Directions:
- Measure 1" from the edge of the 12" side of the construction paper. Cut up and at an angle until it comes to a point at the end of the sheet. The shape will be a thin triangle. Repeat for as many beads at you want and on different color sheets of paper.
- Take the straw and place the wide end of the triangle on the straw and wind around the straw. Once you get to the end place a dot of glue on the point and glue to the roll. Use your finger to smooth out the excess glue.
- Carefully slide the bead off the straw.
- Repeat for all the beads you need.
- String the beads on yarn or ribbon to make a bracelet or necklace.
