National DIY DAY Ambassador | Make San Antonio | San Antonio, Texas

Make San Antonio is a creative hub for makers of all ages. We’re based in San Antonio, Texas and have a goal to foster innovation and collaboration. Our blog serves as a place to post the details behind our projects, and how they came to be.

The biggest challenge is being original in what we create and feature on our blog.

Please share your favorite creative quote:

“Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.” - Ira Glass

Can you tell us your biggest craft fail?

Discovering E6000 craft glue late into my craft adult life!

What is one piece of advice would you give someone wanting to start a blog or creative business:

Stay true to your entrepreneurial spirit! Embrace change, and push forward no matter what others may think or tell you.

Where do you get your creative inspiration?

Family, friends and my community

What are you most excited about for National DIY DAY?

I'm excited to see a day dedicated to creativity and the art of making. I can't wait to see what other people create, and learn from my fellow crafters.

In 5 years, what is your goal for you and your blog?

As a business, our goal would be to create a makerspace. In the meantime, we'll be writing about our maker journey on the blog, and featuring all the items we create along the way. In five years, my goal for the blog would be to have a directory of craft projects from A to Z. From assemblage crafts to DIY zippers, our blog would have a wide variety of crafts ranging from medium, experience level and difficulty.

Please share with us a fun fact about yourself:

I like to hoard laser cut scraps from our laser cutter. It's not unusual to find mason jars with bits of scraps scattered throughout our craft room.
