1 Cute Couple, 1 Tequila, 3 Recipes, 4 Crafty Chicks

by Lynn Lilly, Aug 19 2015

Just like tequila, love and happiness come in all forms. Goza Tequila is very passionate about celebrating happiness for all people. After all, Goza does mean enjoy in Spanish. Goza joined forces with Craft Box Girls to host a cooking dinner party for one of our favorite couples, Jared and Curtis. Both guys are outgoing, adventurous and have a love for tequila. Jared and Curtis were brought together through an online dating site but their adventures continue offline with exciting travels and their love for a great food experience. Prior to the dinner they shared a few funny and crazy stories relating to tequila inspired adventures. We thought this evening was the perfect opportunity to take them on a tequila and food adventure Goza style.

Chan & Laura planned a delicious tequila inspired menu featuring Tequila Mango Salsa, Tequila Shrimp Street Tacos, Tequila Infused Flan and to drink Black Berry Mint Refreshers and Palomas. Rosanna was there to capture the fun and I got to hang out with one of my favorite couples!

We all kicked off the evening with a welcome shot of Goza Tequila Reposado before we embarked on our food adventure.

Through out the night we quickly learned that Curtis is the one with the cooking skills and Jared is really just there to cheer him on and taste test (not a bad gig).

Jared and Curtis learned how to make a Paloma cocktail with Laura before hitting the kitchen with Chan to mix up The Mango Tequila Salsa.

Paloma Cocktail Recipe:

Ingredients (1 serving):

  • 1/4 cup fresh squeezed grapefruit juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon of cane sugar
  • 1.5 parts Goza Tequila Blanco
  • 1.5 parts club soda
  • Kosher salt
  • Wedge of grapefruit

Pour kosher salt on a plate. Rub half of the rim of a highball or rocks glass with a wedge of grapefruit. Combine grapefruit juice, lime juice and sugar in a glass. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Stir in tequila, add ice and top with club soda. Garnish with a grapefruit wedge.

Tequila Mango Salsa:

  • 1 mango, diced
  • 1 cup of cherry tomatoes, diced
  • 1 tablespoon of Goza Tequila Reposado
  • 1/4 cup diced red onions
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped culantro
  • 1 teaspoon of chopped jalapeno
  • pinch of sea salt
  • crispy tortilla chips for dipping

In a serving bowl, combine all ingredients. Mix well. Garnish with jalapeno slices. Serve with crispy tortilla chips

Next up the guys learned the fundamentals of cooking shrimp and what makes a good street taco

Tequila Shrimp Street Tacos (makes 12 tacos)

  • 1 1/2 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 3 tablespoons sweet butter
  • 4 cloves of finely chopped garlic
  • 2 tablespoons Goza Tequila Reposado
  • 1/3 cup diced yellow onions
  • 1/3 cup diced red onions
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped culantro
  • 2 limes, sliced in wedges
  • 2 pinches of salt and pepper
  • 12 corn tortillas
  • Hot sauce (optional)

  1. Wrap corn tortillas in foil and heat in the oven at 200 degrees to keep warm while you prep.
  2. Heat skillet on high. Add butter and garlic. Stir until the butter is half way melted.
  3. Add shrimps, Goza Tequila Reposado, salt and pepper. Stir and cook until the shrimps are pink and seared on both sides or about 4-5 minutes.
  4. To assemble the tacos, layer 4-5 shrimps per taco, yellow onions, red onions, and culantro or cilantro, Serve with a lime wedge and hot sauce (optional).

After a dinner of delicious tacos and sharing funny first time tequila stories, Laura mixed up a few Blackberry Mint Refreshers. This cocktail was the favorite of the night.

Blackberry Mint Refresher

Ingredients (1 serving):

  • 2 parts Goza Tequila Blanco
  • 1 part fresh squeezed grapefruit juice
  • 3 large blackberries
  • 4 mint leaves
  • 2 teaspoons of cane sugar

In a large cocktail shaker muddle blackberries, mint and sugar. Add tequila, grapefruit and crushed ice. Share and pour everything into a rocks glass. Garnish with mint and serve.

Because the guys worked so hard, Chan treated them to her famous tequila flan! Everyone agreed it was the best tasting flan they have ever tried!

Tequila Flan (make six flans)

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 whole eggs
  • 2 egg yolk
  • 1 can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups and 4 tablespoons of water
  • 3 tablespoons of Goza Tequila Blanco
  • 1 teaspoons instant coffee
  • 1 teaspoons vanilla extract

  1. In a small sauce pan and on medium heat, combine 1/2 cup sugar with 4 tablespoons water. Whisk until the sugar dissolves.
  2. When the sugar starts to simmer, add 1 tablespoon Goza Tequila Blanco and instant coffee. Slowly whisk on low heat until the sugar leaves a trail of caramel when you lift the whisk.
  3. Pour caramel evenly into each of the six ramekins. Tilt each ramekin until the caramel sauce covers the bottom of the ramekin. Let it harden.
  4. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Boil a quart of water.
  5. In a large bowl, combine 4 whole eggs and 2 egg yolks. Add 1/2 cup sugar, vanilla extract, 2 tablespoons of Goza Tequila Blanco, 1 can of sweetened condensed milk and 2 cups of water. Whisk well.
  6. Strain the mixture to make sure the condensed milk is fully dissolved.
  7. Fill each ramekin with the flan mixture.
  8. Place the ramekins in a deep oven pan. Pour 1 quart of hot water into the pan not the ramekin. Only cover the ramekin half way with water.
  9. Bake for 1 hour. When done, let cool and refrigerate 4 hours before serving.

The evening continued on with a few more Goza cocktails. They do say a little Goza long way! We love celebrating amazing people and great relationships! Cheers to Jared and Curtis and thank you to Goza Tequila for helping us create a wonderful memory!

xoxo- LL
