Homemade Cranberry Sauce

by Lynn Lilly, Nov 07 2015

I am a big fan of decorating and cooking with cranberries during the holidays.  The one thing I dislike about Thanksgiving is canned cranberry sauce. The canned gelatin junk grosses me out. I introduced this homemade and healthier cranberry sauce to my family and they absolutely loved it!

Ingredients (makes about 1.5 cups):
  • 12 ounce bag of fresh cranberries
  • 1/2 cup of honey
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 cup of water
  • Orange zest from 1 orange
  • Add sugar to sweeten to your liking
Directions:
  • Place all ingredients in medium sauce pan. Turn stove top to medium heat and let ingredients simmer for 20 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  • Once the mixture is mostly liquid turn the burner to low and simmer for 10 more minutes, stirring frequently.
  • Remove cinnamon stick before serving
  • Enjoy with your holiday feast
*If you want a sweeter sauce add sugar to taste during the last 10 minutes of cooking.
Enjoy!
