DIY Valentines for Kids

by Laura Moore, Feb 08 2016
Valentine's Day is all about spreading kindness and love to those around you. I love giving handmade gifts and I am always touched when someone gives me a gift made from the heart. It screams "I was thinking of you!" and I put my blood, sweat, tears and glitter into this beautiful piece. And kids are so proud to give a gift they made with their own hands. Here are two super easy DIY Valentines for kids that they are sure to love!
Candy Bar Wrappers

Supplies:
  • Construction paper
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Markers
  • Glitter
  • Stickers
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Candy bars
With a piece of construction paper or scrapbook paper, cut a 5 1/2 x 6" rectangle. Wrap it around the candy bar and make creases around the sides. This will help when you try to decorate the front of the wrapper.

Decide how you want to decorate your Valentine and go crazy! Cut out a few paper hearts and use the glue stick to secure them to the front of the new wrapper. Next cut out a label to say hello to your Valentine and glue that to the front of the wrapper as well. Add glitter or stickers to add more sparkle to your Valentine! Allow the glue to dry before moving on to the next step.

If you'd like, write a little note on the back of the wrapper for your Valentine. Once dried, wrap the note around the candy bar and glue the wrapper closed. Your Valentine will know this was made with love.

Twisty Candy Container

Supplies:
  • Toilet paper rolls
  • Tissue paper
  • Ribbon
  • Construction paper
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Scotch tape
  • Stickers
  • Markers
  • Small wrapped candies or treats
Take a piece of tissue paper and fold long-ways. Place the toilet paper roll in the center of the tissue paper along the long side and tape one side to the toilet paper roll. Wrap toilet paper roll with tissue paper and tape other side to the roll.

With construction paper or scrapbook paper, cut out a small rectangle as the label to your Valentine. You can write their name on it or a happy Valentine wish. You can even leave it as is and decorate it with a sticker like I did. Glue your label to the tissue paper in the center of the toilet paper roll.

With a long piece of ribbon, tie off one end of the tissue paper opening and curl the ends of the ribbon with scissors. Insert small wrapped candies or treats into the tube and tie off the other end of the tissue paper with ribbon. Trim the edges of the tissue paper if necessary. Enjoy!
