Love in the air and wedding season is here! DIY weddings are becoming so popular these days as brides want to create unique pieces that incorporate their personal design style. This beach inspired wedding sign will help you do just that and I assure you, you’ll have so much fun making it! It’s simple, easy, and perfect for the bride who is short on time :-)

- FolkArt Coastal Paint - Ocean

We hope you enjoy our convenient shoppable materials list. Just so you know, Craft Box Girls may collect a share of the sales from the links on this page.
Step 1: Basecoat your surface in ink chalkboard paint. TIP: Use smooth strokes and make sure to not over apply paint. Let Dry.
Step 2: Apply coastal paint so that it looks like waves of the ocean as seen in the inspiration image. TIP: This paint is thick and the trick to achieving “peaks” is to apply the paint with the brush almost perpendicular to the surface. Then, go back and stipple the peaks to achieve that wavy, 3D effect.
Step 3: I wanted to achieve even more dimension with color which is why I went back and mixed in a little white acrylic paint in with the coastal paint. I layered in lighter colors using the same techniques listed in Step 2. Let dry.
Step 4: With any chalkboard paint, you’ll want to condition it before writing on it to prevent ghosting. To do this, turn a piece of chalk on its side and rub it across the chalkboard surface. Make sure you cover it entirely. Then, wipe the excess chalk away with a damp cloth.
Step 5: Write a romantic saying on your brand new beach inspired wedding sign. I chose the phrase, “By the Sea, I Pledge My Love to Thee.” You can also use this type of sign to display wedding hashtags, drink menus, or incorporate it as part of a table centerpiece! Heck, I’ve been happily married for over 4 years now but I think I’ll keep this little sign around for when I want to daydream about being at the beach :-)
