Bringing outdoors textures like concrete, moss and barnwood are on trend for holiday decor. I took a few of my favorite paint products to create a beautiful tablescape inspired by outdoor textures and tied together with a touch of glam and highlighted with warm fall colors through food, flowers and gourds.
I also showcased these fun ideas during a live broadcast on Plaid's Facebook page earlier this week!
3 Tier Moss Covered Food Display
I upcycled 3 frames and 2 wooden candlesticks into a tiered food display. I gave the tray a unique outdoor look using Folk Art Painted Finishes in Dark Moss. For the full instructions visit our previous post on upcycling frames.
Barnwood Menus
I designed a custom menu using Canva.com, my go to source for quick graphic design needs. I printed the menu on standard printer paper.
The wooden piece was $.99 at Michaels and I painted it with Folk Art Painted Finishes Barnwood. Like a stain you will wine excess paint off using a clean towel. The paint will highlight the grains in even the cheapest pieces of wood. Apply the paper menu using Mod Podge. Apply Mod Podge with a foam brush to the back of the paper and on the wood surface. Lay menu on wood surface and use your fingers to smooth. Apply another coat of Mod Podge the top of the menu to seal it.
Stenciled Chargers
To add a hint of glam I used Folk Art Multi-Surface Metallics in 14K Gold and Chocolate Brown. First I painted a wooden charger from Michaels with 2 coats of the 14K Gold. Once the charger was dry I used leaf stencils and the Chocolate Brown to create the design. To stencil like a pro, use a flat top stencil brush, dip brush straight into the paint, off load paint on a paper towel in a hula-hoop motion, take brush and start off the design and move in a circular motion over into the stencil opening. This technique will change your stencil game!
Clay Leaf Bowl
These are perfect to put a sweet treat by your guests plate. Check out the original instructions to make these bowls from leaves in your yard!
Stenciled Burlap & Lace Utensil Pocket
These burlap pockets are my all time favorite tablescape pieces that I use year round and my guests love. Check out the original post for complete how to instructions!
Other Fun Personal Touches:
Chalkboard Birch Coasters, Moss Covered Letters as Place Markers, Painted Wine Glasses and Craft Paper Place Mats.
Tips:
Bring out the colors in your tablescape using festive fall flowers, gourds and food. Colorful flowers, gourds and food will highlight the outdoor textures and glam touches! I like to supplement my flowers with herbs like rosemary to add to the scent and bring in a different texture. I like to decorate with food so my guests immediately have something to munch on!
Happy Entertaining!
