Happy May! Many of you are still working from home with your kiddos and I know it is tough to keep them occupied. I am here to help! I am continuing my partnership with Crayola to help inspire their community with at home crafts during my weekly live broadcasts on their Facebook page. Today is all about paper plates! Grab those paper plates and get ready for some easy crafts to keep the kiddos entertained!
Project 1: Paper Plate Tambourine
Materials:
- Crayola Markers
- Crayola Glue
- Paper Plate
- Popsicle Stick
- Pony Beads
- Yarn
- Filler (uncooked pasta or rice, dried beans)
Directions:
- Flip the paper plate upside down. Color and draw patterns with the markers on the bottom of the plate.
- String pony beads on 4 pieces of yarn and knot both ends.
- Fold the paper plate in half. Fill half with the filler of your choice.
- Glue the popsicle stick to the bottom half of the plate.
- Position the bead strands next to the popsicle stick along the bottom edge.
- Glue the top half of the plate to the bottom sandwiching the popsicle stick and the bead stands.
- If you want to add a little something extra, glue a scrap piece of ribbon or pom poms on the edge of the tambourine.
Project 2: Paper Plate Spiral Mobile
Materials:
- Crayola Markers
- Paper Plate
- Scissor
- Hole Punch
- Yarn
Directions:
- Flip the paper plate upside down and color the bottom of the plate with the markers.
- Starting at the outside edge of the plate, cut a spiral toward the center. When you reach the center leave a circular tab at the end.
- Whole punch the tab and string yarn through both holes. Hang by a vent watch it twirl.
- If you have an embroidery hoop you can thank 3-4 on the hoop and make a big mobile!
Project 3: Paper Plate Lily Flowers
Materials:
- Crayola Washable Paint
- Crayola Construction Paper
- Crayola Glue
- Pipe Cleaners
- Scissor
Directions:
- Paint both sides of the paper plate and dry.
- Cut the plate into fourths.
- Roll each fourth leaving a small hole at the point. Secure with glue.
- Take a pipe cleaner and roll the end. Drop it down inside the flower. Carefully pull the end through the opening point of the flower. The rolled end will stop it from pulling through.
- Cut thin strips of yellow construction paper and glue on the inside of the flower.
- Make a bouquet of flowers or add a group of three flowers to the front of a card for mom or a friend!
