Valentine's Day is a favorite crafting holiday in our house. I am excited to share 3 easy Valentine's Day card boxes that you can make with your kiddos live on the Crayola Facebook page. The best part of these is that you can recycle snack, cereal, shipping or shoe boxes that you already have at home.
All the Crayola products I am using today can be found at crayola.com
Dino Valentine's Day Card Box
Materials:
- 1 Medium Snack Box
- 1 Small Snack Box
- Cardboard Craft Roll (paper towel roll size)
- Crayola Construction Paper
- Crayola Glitter Glue
- Crayola Markers
- Crayola Liquid Washable Glue
- Crayola Glue Stick
- Pencil
- Scissor
- Googley Eyes
- Tape (if you don't want to use glue to wrap the boxes)
- Ruler
Directions:
- Using the glue and green construction paper wrap the medium snack box like a present. Before getting started, make sure all the sides are glued shut. You can use tape as an alternative to glue.
- Leave one of the short sides of the small snack box open. Cut a triangle into each side of the box.
- Wrap the small snack box with a piece of green construction paper. Cut the paper to align with the triangle cutout.
- The small box is the dino's head. Cut out teeth from white construction paper and glue into the mouth.
- Glue a googley eye or draw an eye.
- Cut out triangles or wave shapes and glue them to the top of the box to make dino horns.
- Glue the small snack box to the top edge of the medium box to form the head and body of the dino.
- Cut out a tail and spikes. Have fun decorating them with markers or glitter glue.
- Glue the spikes and tail to the body.
- Cut 2 pieces of the craft roll 4" long. These are the dino legs.
- Cut and glue 2 pieces of construction paper to fit around the craft roll pieces. Draw toes/claws on each craft roll with markers.
- Glue the craft rolls to the bottom of the box so the dino has legs!
This is just the start. Let your kiddos get creative with how they decorate their dino. I selected green but dinos can come in all colors!
Unicorn Valentine's Day Card Box
Materials:
- Solid Color Box (shoebox, gift box, etc)
- Crayola Construction Paper
- Crayola Bright Pop Cardstock
- Crayola Glitter Glue
- Crayola Washable Liquid Glue
- Craft Knife (for adult use only)
- Pencil
- Scissor
Directions:
- Adults use a craft knife to cut a heart in the top of the box. Make it big enough so cards can fit through.
- Cut a triangle shaped horn out of a piece of Bright Pop Cardstock.
- Create a flower crown for the unicorn by making rose paper flowers. Start by drawing a circle (doesn't have to be perfect). Draw a spiral inside the circle starting at the edge and spiral toward the center.
- Starting the edge of the circle where you started to draw the spiral, cut out the spiral along the line you drew. When you get to the center leave a little tab. This will be the base of the flowers.
- Snip the end of the spiral from the sheet of paper. Starting at the end the of spiral roll the flower until you get the center.
- Glue the spiral to the tab at the end. Hold in place until the glue is tacky.
- Repeat steps to make more flowers.
- Cut out leaf shapes from construction paper.
- Glue the horn to the front top of the box.
- Glue the flowers and leaves across the top front of the box over the horn.
- Use glitter glue or markers to draw eyes, a nose and smile.
Get ready for a magical Valentine's Day! If you don't have a solid color box you can always wrap the box with construction paper!
**Bonus Idea**
