Map Frame

by Laura Moore, Apr 25 2014

I made these map picture frames as favors for my destination wedding and they were a huge hit! Plus, it’s inexpensive too! DOUBLE WIN!Description: http://craftboxgirl.wordpress.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/wordpress/img/trans.gif

Step 1: Items you will need – Mod Podge, foam brush, wooden frame, X-Acto knife, and road atlas. Tip: If you don’t have an old road atlas, head to your local AAA travel office to pick up free maps.  Work on a covered flat surface.

Step 2: Remove cardboard. Lay frame on map and trace frame for placement. Make sure there is enough paper to fold over to the backside. Paint a thin layer of Mod Podge on the front of frame. Lay frame on the traced areas on the map and press down adding pressure to ensure the map dries flat and smooth.

Step 3: Paint Mod Podge on the top and bottom edges and backs of the frame and folding the map over. Trim excess paper. Do the same for the sides. It’s very similar to wrapping a gift. Take a pen and poke small hole through the map on the back of the frame for wooden rod.

Step 4: Fold the corners over by adding more Mod Podge to each corner. Mold the corners down to shape the rounded edges. Trim excess paper.

Step 5: Lay frame facedown and cut an X in the center of frame where picture will go. Paint a thin layer of Mod Podge around the inner edges and fold map inward. Let dry for 30 minutes. Trim excess paper after frame dries.

Step 6: Paint a thin layer of Mod Podge over the frame and let dry for 30 minutes. Mod Podge will dry clear. Once the frame is completely dry, add your picture, then insert the wooden rod and VOILA!

Tips Select a map that may have special meaning, like where you’re from, or where you met your friend, that way they will always think of you!
