Even though your kids are at home you can still have fun decorating their backpack with them! If your kid is looking for an adorable book bag with their latest spirit animal crush then forget the search. You can make your own book bag design that is too cool for school. This is a great project for scrap vinyl!
Search Cricut Design Space for your spirit animal or free-hand cut out your images.
Supplies:
- Book bag
- Cricut white iron-on vinyl or color of your choice
- Fabric marker in black, gold, pink, green and purple
- 3 pink ribbons (6 inch each)
- Scissors
- Iron or EasyPress (this post is a revamp from before the EasyPress existed)
Directions to create the unicorn bag:
1. If you are using a Cricut you can access unicorn cut files in the image section. Search Unicorn to find the one I used. If you do not have a Cricut search google for an image to cut and trace on the vinyl.
2. Layout the unicorns on the book bag before ironing on. Make sure the images are spaced out equally.
3. Iron on the image using high heat for about 30 seconds.
4. Peel off the plastic surface. Press the iron on the vinyl to ensure it is sealed on.
5. Continue to do this until all of the unicorns are on the book bag.
6. Print and cut out the name or initials of your child. I used Brush Script as the font of choice. If you are using Cricut Design Space you can select the font of your choice. If you are not using a Cricut, trace the name on the reverse side of the vinyl (non glossy side). This creates a mirror image and when iron on, the name appears correctly.
7. Use the fabric markers to color in the unicorn's eye, horn, hair and tail.
9. Cut out the zipper handle if you do not like the color. Use the pink ribbon to add a pink grip for the zipper. This step is optional.
How cool and fun was that? This project is great to keep mom busy and will definitely surprise your kiddos!
xoxo
